Weekend golfers always want what they can’t have. Thankfully, master craftsman Scotty Cameron takes the comments and feedback into consideration when he’s creating limited-edition offerings. Think of it as a putter wish list. The latest Xperimental Golo 6.2 features several Tour-only attributes that won’t be found on the current retail line.
Let’s start with the most obvious addition: a Chromatic Bronze finish recently found on several Tour putters, including a 009M made for Rory McIlroy. The distinct color found on the 303 stainless steel head is achieved by a proprietary manufacturing process that changes the finish and reduces glare at address.
The putter’s topline is manually misted and the face is hand-buffed before its application. Dirty white and asphalt accents are designed to give the putter a true Tour feel, commonly reserved for wands with a four-figure and up price tag.
Unlike the retail Super Select Golo 6 that includes a mid-bend shaft, Cameron opted for an I-beam-style plumber’s neck to allow the head to rotate more like a blade during the stroke.
“The Golo 6 putter head size has been in play for a couple years now,” said master craftsman Scotty Cameron. “And as more touring pros adopt this compact mallet shape, we get into the prototype phase of experimenting with different neck configurations and finishes based on player feedback. The Xperimental Golo 6.2 Ltd is just that: a new design that adds a familiar plumbing neck, our very popular but rare Chromatic Bronze finish, and a new chain-link face milling.”
A new chain-link face milling technology combines the soft feel of a deep-milled putter with the consistency and feedback of Cameron’s mid-milled offering. The chain-link pattern was designed exclusively for the Xperimental Golo 6.2 and matches the design found on the side panels of the custom, paddle-style full-contact grip.
Two customizable stainless steel sole weights (10, 15 and 20 grams) can also be adjusted to match the length of the putter (33, 34 and 35 inches).
“With the Xperimental Golo 6.2 Ltd putter, we’re offering a small run of a new configuration based on the popular Super Select Golo 6 models,” said Austie Rollinson, Scotty Cameron’s senior director of putter R&D. “We get requests from tour players for different setups based on the Golo 6 head size, and after testing a plumbing neck on this rounded, compact mallet, we discovered that players really like the familiar view from address to help with setup and alignment, as well as the feel of a trusted neck design. It’s a beautiful putter built to perform at our game’s highest levels.”
The limited-edition Xperimental Golo 6.2 putter is available on 9/27 and retails for $800.
