Hello friends, and welcome to this week’s edition of the Rogers Report! There may not be a PGA Tour event happening this week, but there’s still a lot going on in the golf world. For instance, Sun Day Red recently launched its women’s line, which I am very excited about.
To know me is to know that I wear very basic, comfortable clothes when I’m at a golf tournament. Take a look at my Instagram and you’ll see lots of simple sweatshirts and athleisure, which is exactly what Sun Day Red’s women’s line is about. Their elevated essentials are ideal for being on the course, running errands and lounging at home — three things which I personally love to do.
And although their pink hoodie isn’t technically from the women’s line, I had to give it a shoutout. It’s the perfect shade of pink and would be perfect for the colder weather.
Golf Halloween costumes
We’ve still got a few days left until Halloween, and if you’re anything like me, you usually wait for the last minute to get a costume together. I’ve seen just about every golf-inspired costume there is over the last handful of years working in golf media, so allow me to present some last-minute costume ideas if you’re in a pinch.
- Masters caddie: If you didn’t have time to get the official Caddie Uniform, please plan ahead better next year. Luckily, you can still wear a painters suit or an all white outfit. Make sure to include a last name in green on your back. Extra points if you carry a staff bag and wear HOKAs.
- Scottie Scheffler: You could wear an orange jumpsuit with a green jacket, or you could just carry around a gold medal and a ton of trophies while sporting an oversized Nike golf shirt. Also, act like you’ve been there before and don’t celebrate too hard when someone hands you a full-size candy bar while trick-or-treating.
- Tiger Woods: A red shirt and black pants. Spinal fusion not required.
- John Daly: This is great if you own a golf cart. Throw on the loudest golf outfit you’ve got, grab a soda and have a blast.
- Charley Hull: All you need for this is a hat, sunglasses and a dart. Extra points if you have a Malbon Golf outfit.
- Jason Day: Another Malbon athlete! Find a windbreaker and oversized pants with a pattern on them. This one might require some explaining, but many of the best Halloween costumes do.
- Rickie Fowler: Put on every orange article of clothing you’ve got and pair it with a metal water bottle.
Pros at the world series
What do Taylor Swift and Bryson DeChambeau have in common? Well, they are both extremely successful. Additionally, (and perhaps more importantly!) both have spent time at Yankee Stadium over the last few weeks. To my Getty Image photographers out there: You all did a great job capturing some images of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce during Game 1 of the ALCS. I’m asking you to do the same for the professional golfers who are attending the World Series. Scottie Scheffler attended Game 3 with Adam Sandler on Monday night, and we have no professional photos to prove it. Heartbreaking!
Luckily, my coworker, Alan Bastable, was able to provide some details from the professional golf/”Happy Gilmore” outing that took place on Monday night.
On Tuesday, Alan told me his source had mistaken one detail: Brooks Koepka was in the box, not Bryson, but Scheffler and Brooks did also apparently hang with Bryson, who was seated elsewhere in the stadium. I have to wonder what the conversation between Sandler, Scheffler and Koepka looked like. Was it similar to the conversations Jay Monahan, Rory McIlroy and Yasir Al-Rumayyan have had? Did they solve all the issues facing the state of professional golf over a hot dog and popcorn? Probably not. But it’s fun to imagine.
Here’s a shot of Brooks at the game with his wife, Jena Sims.
America’s pastime seems like the perfect way to spend part of golf’s offseason.
The best golf schedule
PGA Tour schedule this! LIV schedule that! I’ve always said that there’s too much discussion around the professional golf schedule and not nearly enough about what Lee Trevino’s schedule. Let’s change that, shall we?
Trevino is 84 years old and keeping his game sharp with 90 minutes of practice each day. And then he leaves the rest of his day open to “do nothing!” This might be my ideal retirement. I’d definitely want to get out on the course and play a few days a week, but this is a very good start. And for someone who spent decades of his life teeing it up, I get why he’s focused on practice.
Trevino is done with his work for the day before lunch. Aspirational. And if my bosses are reading this, I promise I won’t get any ideas.
Caitlin Clark
The countdown to Caitlin Clark’s pro-am appearance at The Annika next month is on, and Clark is putting in work on the course in preparation for it. The WNBA rookie is working with former LPGA player Martha Foyer-Faulconer to get rid of her slice (relatable) and to pound her driver.
Clark told Foyer-Faulconer that she just wants “to kill it,” which makes it official: Clark has the golf bug.
